The search for Owen Bedford turned tragic on Friday after Brandon police confirmed they had found his body.

The body of the missing teen was retrieved from the Assiniboine River, after volunteers had helped search for five days.

Bedford, 18, went missing early Sunday morning after going to a bar with friends.

Tyson Tame, who is Bedford’s uncle, said even though five days had passed since his nephew went missing, it didn’t make it any easier.

“It’s hard. It was hard not to suspect it, but nonetheless still shocking and very sad,” he said.

Brandon police, in a Facebook post, sent condolences to Bedford’s family.

“Our thoughts are with Owen’s family and friends as they navigate this incredibly difficult and painful time. We extend our deepest sympathies and stand with them in their grief,” the post said.

Police also thanked the hundreds of people who helped search since Bedford went missing.
