LARGE SAFE STOLEN

Brandon police say two people and a vehicle would have been required to remove a “large and heavy safe” from a business that was broken into overnight on Wednesday.

Officers were called at about 8 a.m. to a business on the 1500 block of Braecrest Drive.

Police said an intruder had smashed the window to enter the business.

BPS is asking that anyone with information contact them at 204-729-2345.

ARRESTED MAN DENIED BAIL

Brandon Police Service arrested a man after responding to a disturbance in the 1600 block of McTavish Avenue on Wednesday.

Police received a call at around 10 p.m. that an intoxicated man was acting aggressively toward family members.

When police arrived, a man ran at an officer while reaching for what appeared to be a large kitchen knife from his waistband, police said in a news release.

The man then changed direction and ran toward the residence where he had previously been, police said.

Officers arrested the man and took him into custody. He was charged with possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and failing to comply with probation.

Tristan McKay, 20, appeared in court on Thursday morning to apply for bail, which the Crown opposed.

Judge Patrick Sullivan denied his bail and said he has a lengthy record that includes consistent breaches of court orders and if he was released he would pose a threat to the community.

WOMAN CHARGED IN BREAK-IN

Brandon police arrested a woman after a business was broken into early Thursday morning.

A security company called police at around 12:15 a.m. and said that an alarm went off at a business on the 400 block of 10th Street.

The keyholder then called police and said a woman broke into the building, took items from the freezer and went to the washroom, police said in a news release.

Police went to the business, where they arrested a 26-year-old woman and charged her with a break and enter.

She was taken to BPS headquarters, held in a detention cell and released later that morning.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 11.

CITY LAUNCHES REVAMPED WEBSITE

The City of Brandon has launched its revamped website.

The website, which is still brandon.ca, boasts a new design and layout, which the city describes in a news release as aiming “to streamline access to information for residents, businesses and visitors alike.”

The release says the site now has a more intuitive navigation system, along with an enhanced Google-powered search. The site will also have alert banners for important or critical information.

“Our goal was to make the website as intuitive as possible,” said Colin Craig, acting director of the city’s innovation, technology and communications department. “Our team listened to community feedback to ensure that residents can find the information they need quickly and effortlessly.”

The city is encouraging people to check out the site and submit feedback.

AIR MUSEUM CLOSED FOR TWO DAYS NEXT WEEK

The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum will be temporarily closed for two days next week for Manitoba Hydro to do work on the site.

Manitoba Hydro will be doing “unexpected infrastructure work” at the museum next Tuesday and Wednesday.

“We recognize this short-notice closure may disrupt travel plans and community visits, and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding,” executive director Stephen Hayter said in a press release. “The work being done by Manitoba Hydro is essential, and we look forward to reopening with renewed energy — literally!”

The museum will reopen on Thursday with regular operating hours and programming.
