Manitoba RCMP officers are helping several northern communities evacuate after the province declared a second state of emergency on Thursday afternoon.
Officers are helping with the evacuation of South Indian Lake, Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and Kitiganwacheeng (Garden Hill First Nation), RCMP said in a news release on Friday.
The communities of Lynn Lake, Snow Lake, Leaf Rapids, Gransville Lake and Mathias Colomb Cree Nation have completed evacuation, the release said.
RCMP officers, firefighters and EMS are in those communities to make sure homes and properties are secure, along with maintaining road closures and roadblocks.
“If you come across a checkpoint, please be patient and await further instructions from the officers on scene,” the release said.
Information on road closures and wildfire zones can be found on the Manitoba 511 website at manitoba511.ca.
