This past weekend, the Waywayseecappo Gas Bar Rodeo was held on Waywayseecappo property off of Highway 10 south of the Brandon Municipal Airport.

They also hosted a Western Canadian Classic Car Show on Saturday.

The traffic count was exceptionally high over the weekend and I personally witnessed the need for a turning and passing lane.

Brandon Municipal Airport has a turning lane and does not have the traffic that the Waywayseecappo Gas Bar has. Not even close.

It only makes sense that this turning lane be extended to the Waywaysecappo Gas Bar.

Leaving Highway 10 in its present condition will lead to a major traffic accident with fatalities.

Just like the Carberry junction, it would seem that only fatalities will bring the necessary attention.

Waywayseecappo should be commended for bringing lower gas prices while providing full service with very respectful gas attendants.

Maybe the fact that this is a Native-owned business is the reason why there is the lack of Manitoba Provincial Highway consideration.

Under the Indian Act, an Indian reserve is a Federal Government of Canada responsibility and the Province of Manitoba has historically used this jurisdiction issue as an excuse to deny services on an Indian reserve.

It will only take one impatient driver or inattentive semi-truck driver for a tragedy to occur.

This is 100 per cent a safety concern.

We all have friends and relatives who frequent this business, and if this traffic issue is not addressed by the province, we will be reading in The Brandon Sun of a vehicle fatality at this location. Extending the passing and turning lane a few hundred metres south from Brandon Municipal Airport to this location is the logical solution to this problem.

I truly hope sensibility will prevail.
