Sandy Lake Search and Rescue have recovered the body of a 27-year-old man who was reported missing last week in Keeseekoowenin First Nation, according to a Yellowhead RCMP news release.

The man was found in the community’s lagoon Aug. 7 at 8:40 p.m. Earlier that day, at 4:20 p.m., Elphinstone RCMP received a report of a missing Shoal Lake man.

During their investigation, Mounties said they learned that Keeseekoowenin First Nation security attempted to stop a vehicle Aug. 6 at about 10 p.m. being driven by the 27-year-old man.

The driver did not stop, according to RCMP — and later that evening, an abandoned vehicle was found near the lagoon.

Yellowhead RCMP, which covers areas in Wasagaming, Hamiota, Elphinstone and Shoal Lake, continue to investigate the drowning. Foul play is not suspected.
