TODAY
• 7 a.m. — The 2025 Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze take place over the weekend. Semi-professional rodeo action takes place all weekend long in the Tundra Oil and Gas Place arena with a matinée in the afternoon and evening performances, which include mutton-busting. The competition attracts top-calibre contestants from across the Prairies as well as northern U.S., New Zealand and Australia. Today: Pancake breakfast at 7 a.m.; high school rodeo at Tundra Oil and Gas at 9 a.m.; Corex Rodeo Kickoff BBQ at Victoria Park 11 a.m.; Downtown Wild West Daze Events and Show and Shine from 5 to 10 p.m. with live entertainment with Julianna Moore. Downtown Daze takes over the town’s main business district with fun for the whole family including live entertainment, food, carnival games, local vendors and even a mechanical bull.

• 8 a.m. — Canada’s National Arabian Championship is being held at the Keystone Centre until Aug. 16. This event is the largest Arabian Horse Show in Canada. Exhibitors from all over North America gather to compete for the title of national champion in more than 100 different classes of in-hand and under-saddle competition. Admission is free. • 6:30 p.m. — The City of Brandon presents Open Mic Night on the Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank Discovery Centre from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This event will take place every second Thursday until Aug. 28. Dallas Hulley from Brandon Open Mic will be your host.
FRIDAY

• 3 p.m. — Gaming night and tournament in the Creation Nation Makerspace classroom at 440 Rosser Ave. starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. Pop in whenever you are free. • 6 p.m. — Elvis Presley dinner and show will take place at Danceland (119 Wasagaming Dr.). in Wasagaming. Elvis Presley tribute artist Rory Allen will entertain with a full-length show of solid gold Elvis hits. There will also be an Oji-Cree Showcase and Market featuring Fashions by Edna. Southern-style buffet dinner featuring ribs, cornbread, potato salad and all the fixings. Doors open at 6 p.m.; dinner at 6:30 p.m.; show at 8 p.m.

• Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Summer hours for the museum are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the CATP. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — We opened our new temporary exhibit, marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The main features of the exhibit include a trench wall, First World War artillery and two machine-gun pits. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday. • Wasagaming Community Arts (110 Wasagaming Dr.) — We are pleased to announce the opening of our fourth and final exhibition of the 2025 season. Exhibition 4 runs from Saturday to Sept. 6. This special 55th season finale brings together five artists with deep connections to Wasagaming Community Arts, Clear Lake, and Riding Mountain National Park: Karen Holden, Karen Clark, Kathleen Balejia, Jordan Miller and Robin Rice. • Aug. 29-31 — The Rossburn Rodeo and Harvest Festival takes place at the Rossburn Ag grounds. Features Chuckwagon and Chariot Races with Calcutta; Canadian Cowboys Association Approved Rodeo; wild pony races, parade, kids’ activities, market, food trucks and more. Entertainment by The Mike Sacharko Band and Jerry Sereda. Brought to you by the Rossburn Ag Society and the Waywayseecappo First Nation.
• Aug. 30 — End of Season party: “Love Our Lake” takes place at the North Hall at Sandy Lake at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. Silent auction, 50/50, door prizes, cash bar and lunch. Dance music and entertainment by Codgadoors.
• Sept. 4 — The last Downtown Cruise Night of the season takes place in downtown Brandon on Rosser Avenue between Sixth Street and 13th Street from 6 to 9 p.m. People wishing to show their vehicles are encouraged to enter the event at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and 13th Street. All vehicles are welcome. Free to participants and spectators. Presented by Brandon & Area Car Enthusiasts (BACE), Kelleher Ford, Cal Jackson of Integral Realty and Off The Wall Signs.
• Sept. 6 — Festival of Joy will be held at St. Augustine School grounds (330 Third St.). This is a family event of fun, games, sports, music, trivia, food and presentations that highlight the diverse cultures in our community. This event takes place from 1 to 8 p.m. and is free to attend.
• Sept. 6 — Car show at Sand Hills Casino from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event was rescheduled from July 20. Spectators welcome. Free admission.
• Sept. 7 — Promises Bridal is hosting their second annual Downtown Family Block Party from 1-5 p.m. at Princess Park and area. Live entertainment by The Clubbing Fraggles. Games, barbecue, face painting and much more. Free to attend.
• Sept. 11 — Join us for a free concert from the RCAF Band at the Fusion Credit Union Stage at the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 7 p.m. They will be playing all of your favourite rock, pop and country hits.
• Sept. 11-13 — The Fall Rotary Book Sale will be held in the Imperial Ballroom at the Victoria Inn featuring more than 75,000 books. Free book for every child. Free admission. Hours: Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 12, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Sept. 13 — A Re-Creation of The Johnny Cash TV Show (Episode 2) will be held at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.
