Carberry’s fourth annual Homecoming Festival will be postponed after the organizers allegedly discovered “misappropriated funds.”

The discovery led the Carberry Homecoming Committee to remove one of its members and conduct an internal investigation.

The committee announced the postponement and apologized for any inconveniences it may cause in a social media post on Friday.

“Due to a possible breach of the Homecoming Committee’s vision, values, integrity and transparency, an internal investigation has begun into the conduct of a previous member that has been removed from the committee,” the post read.

The committee has reported the incident to police and no charges have been laid.

In a written statement to the Sun on Tuesday, the committee said the past week has been difficult and emotional.

“The discovery of misappropriated funds has not only shaken the trust within our organization, but it has also placed a heavy burden on our volunteers — many of whom dedicate countless hours of their personal time to make the festival a reality,” the statement said.

The situation has also affected committee members’ daily lives as they have spent long days and time during holidays to address the issue, the statement said.

The committee has rebranded the event from the Carberry Homecoming Festival to the Prairie Harvest Festival.

The statement said it was a “change we never anticipated making under these circumstances, but one we believe is necessary to move forward with integrity and a renewed sense of power.”

The committee thanked people for their patience and support while they navigate through this “challenging chapter.”

“We are determined to learn from it, put stronger safeguards in place, and continue building the kind of festival our community deserves.”
