Men’s wellness is the focus this weekend for an array of events at the Assiniboine Food Forest in Brandon.
The 100 Men with 100 Drums Summer Gathering is planned to begin today and continue through Sunday. The event has been organized to connect men and allow them to share, Jason Gobeil, the host, wrote on social media.
“As men we often sit alone with our emotions, our frustrations, our difficulties and our voices,” Gobeil posted on Facebook Thursday. “This weekend’s 100 Men with 100 Drums Gathering … is created as a safe space for our men to find a moment of healing, a moment of release, a chance to be vocal and to be supported by brothers of all creed and color.”

The event is open to all men from any walk of life, culture, faith and nation, organizers wrote.
Activities include drum making, shared meals, nature walks, conversations and speeches in Brandon’s east end.
Men’s issues are often overlooked, organizers wrote. The gathering is meant to combat that problem.
“We continue to light the fire and create a safe circle for men locally in community, but the need is greater than we knew, and this gathering helps us to explore ways of supporting each other and in facilitating a safe space for healing, connecting and reawakening the inner spirit.”
The Sun was unable to reach Gobeil for comment on Friday.
The event wraps up at noon on Sunday, and the schedule is subject to change. For updates, visit the Facebook page, “100 Men with 100 Drums Summer Gathering.”
