When officers arrived, the man tried to hide in the bathroom and then hung off the second-storey balcony before falling to the ground and running away, police said in a news release.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man and took him to the hospital for X-rays before he was lodged in cells.

He was charged with resisting arrest.

Armed robbery attempt

Brandon police arrested a man after he allegedly tried to steal money and alcohol while armed on Friday.

BPS received a report that a man armed with a brick and a knife approached a woman and her friends and demanded their money and beer. The people refused, and the man allegedly fled, police said.

Police found a 26-year-old man in the area who matched the description of the suspect and arrested him.

The man was held in custody for court and charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, possessing a weapon and two counts of failing to comply with court orders.

Mischief with baseball bat

Brandon police arrested a man on Saturday night after he allegedly tried to get into his daughter’s house and, while leaving, damaged the neighbour’s car.

A downtown resident reported to police that her intoxicated father showed up at her house with a baseball bat and tried to get inside at around 11 p.m. While leaving, he hit the neighbour’s vehicle with the bat, police said in a news release.

The man left in a vehicle registered under his name, and when police found the vehicle, two men were inside.

The driver was co-operative, but the 61-year-old passenger, who was the subject of the complaint, became “aggressive, confrontational and belligerent with police,” the release said.

Officers deployed “non-lethal munitions” and the man complied with police.

The man was charged with possessing a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and resisting arrest. He was taken into custody and was to be released with a court date once sober.

The driver, who was a 42-year-old Brandon man, had a suspended driver’s licence, police said.

Police arrested the man and impounded his vehicle. He was later released with Highway Traffic Act tickets.
