• 40 YEARS AGO — Erich Timm and Rick Zetariuk scored for the Thunderbird Sails in a 2-2 draw with the German Army in a Brandon Senior Soccer League game. Andreas Hartmann and Wolfgang Makurath replied for the Germans.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Joe Houle rushed 13 times for 152 yards and scored three touchdowns as the Neepawa Tigers kicked off the 1995 Rural Manitoba Football League season with a 42-8 victory over the Souris Sabres.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Dale Coulter won the Minot Country Club’s International match-play golf tournament for the second time. Playing in the event for the first time in six years, Coulter won the final 5-and-4 over Jay Myhre of Rolette, N.D.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Troy Leslie has signed a three-year contract extension with the Virden Oil Capitals that will see the team’s head coach and general manager with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League club through the 2018-19 season.
