Home Routes is making its return to Brandon after a seven-year absence in hopes of bringing the city back into the folk music scene.
The Park Community Centre will host two shows — one on Tuesday featuring the Canadian folk artist Scott Nolan, and another on Oct. 14 featuring Michael McGovern from Glasgow, Scotland.
Mitch Podolak and Ava Kobrinsky — founders of the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the West End Cultural Centre — started the Winnipeg-based community concert production organization known as Home Routes in 2007.
After the Brandon Folk Music and Art Festival collapsed during the COVID-19 pandemic and the passing of Brandon’s Home Tours host, Colleen Seymour, in 2020, Home Routes president Drew Caldwell said it’s time Brandon returned to the Canadian folk music scene.
The organization focuses on intimate concerts in homes or small community halls, Caldwell said.
“It really provides a connection that no other concert format provides,” Caldwell said.
It also gives working folk artists — both Canadian and international — a chance to tour the country.
“It really provides something that’s been gone from Brandon for too long.”
Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 if bought in advance and $30 at the door. They will be limited to 40 people.
Ticket information can be found through HomeRoutes.ca by texting 204-721-2205.
