CHILD PORN DISCOVERED DURING MEDICAL EPISODE
A Brandon man was arrested on Thursday after a bystander allegedly saw child pornography material on his phone while trying to help him during a medical episode in August.
Police received a report that a 55-year-old man had lost consciousness in a business on the 1500 block of 18th Street on Aug. 24.

A bystander used the man’s phone to try to contact a family member and while doing so noticed he had pictures of naked youth as his screensaver, Brandon Police Service said in a news release Friday.
The phone was turned over to police, and an ambulance took the man to the Brandon Regional Health Centre for his medical concerns.
Officers went to the man’s residence on Thursday and arrested him for possession of child pornography. He was subsequently released on an undertaking with a court appearance scheduled in December.
POSSESSION OF MACHETE
Brandon Police Service arrested a man after receiving a report of an attempted armed robbery on Thursday.
Police responded to the report in the 1500 block of Rosser Avenue at around 9 p.m.
The victim reported that a man brandished a machete and demanded money from them, police said in a news release Friday.
The victim ran away and did not give the man anything, police said, adding that the victim was not injured.
The man left the scene on a bicycle, and police found him at Dinsdale Park a short time later, the release said.
Police said the 34-year-old man was in possession of a machete, and officers arrested him.
He was charged with possessing a weapon and breaching his probation. He was released on an appearance notice with a court date scheduled in December.
