• 60 YEARS AGO — Keith Elder, a member of the Brandon Pistol and Rifle Association, has been selected to compete in the Canadian trials at Brampton later this month. Elder is one of 12 crackshots selected from across Canada.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Minnedosa duo of Arnold and Brian Nichols shot a 79 at the Brandon Golf and Country Club to top a field of 26 teams in the annual father-and-son golf tournament. Runner-up was the team of Bob and Ron Cornell of Brandon.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings got some good news today, when it was announced two players — Trenton Ciprick and Dave Thomlinson — attending NHL training camps, were returning to the WHL team.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jackie Lewis had a hole-in-one on the 126-yard 17th hole at the Clear Lake golf course. Lewis used a seven-wood for the feat.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Kelly Robertson began his bid for a third consecutive Brandon Sun Westman Super League of Curling title by winning convincingly on Wednesday. Robertson’s Neepawa squad, winners of three of the last four Super League championships, beat the only other team to win a title in that span — Murray Warren of Medora — 8-4 at the Wheat City Curling Club.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jacob Thomson had nine kills to lead the Neelin Spartans to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-13) win over the visiting Crocus Plainsmen in a Westman High School Volleyball League junior varsity boys’ match. Dayton Black added seven kills for the Spartans, while Jared Bridges paced the Plainsmen with seven kills.
