• 50 YEARS AGO — A young black Labrador, named Pelican Lake Petey II, bred, owned and handled by Cec Leech of Brandon, won the Canadian National Retriever Championship at Williams Lake, out-placing dogs from across the country.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Terry Fowler was the only Brandon Boxing Club fighter to win at a card in Camperville. Fowler, fighting in the 125-pound division, won a unanimous decision over Camperville’s Lyle Ross.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Carmen Hurd had nine kills to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to a 3-2 high school varsity girls volleyball win over the Virden Golden Bears.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings blew a glorious opportunity to jump all over the Saskatoon Blades. Instead, the Blades came off a 10-day layoff and a draining six-hour bus ride in horrible highway conditions to embarrass the Wheat Kings on home ice, beating Brandon 7-2 in a WHL mismatch in front of 1,706 observers at the Keystone Centre.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Kate Fergusson had five kills as the Vincent Massey Vikings defeated the visiting Neelin Spartans 3-0 (25-17, 27-25, 25-20) in a Westman High School Volleyball League junior varsity girls’ match.
