BUSINESS BROKEN INTO

Brandon Police Service arrested a man on Friday after receiving a report of a break and enter at a business.

When police went to the business in the 200 block of Pacific Avenue and reviewed security footage, they learned that a man had smashed a window to get inside, police said in a news release on Saturday.

The man was inside for a “significant period of time,” during which he damaged property and stole several items, police said.

Officers found and arrested a 26-year-old man nearby and held him in detention cells for a court appearance.

The man was charged with break and enter, theft, mischief to property under $5,000, disguise with intent to commit a crime and failing to comply with a release order.

FRAUDULENT TRUCK RENTAL

Police are investigating after somebody fraudulently used another person’s identification to rent a vehicle in Brandon.

A U-Haul truck was rented on Sept. 30 from a business in the 2000 block of Lyndale Drive, Brandon Police Service said in a news release on Saturday.

The person used somebody else’s identification without them knowing to rent the vehicle, the release said.

The truck has not been returned and has an Arizona licence plate that reads AM13601, police said.

ARMED ROBBERY

Brandon police arrested a woman after she allegedly pulled out an imitation handgun when confronted about stolen merchandise on Friday.

A loss prevention officer at a business in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue reported at around 5 p.m. that a woman in the store had a handgun, police said in a news release.

Officers arrived within two minutes and took a man and woman into custody.

When officers searched the woman’s bag, they found a replica revolver handgun, and the man had a can of bear spray, police said.

Police said the loss prevention officer had confronted the woman about having stolen items in her purseand she pulled out the imitation handgun, the release said.

The loss prevention officer felt threatened and let the woman leave with the stolen items, police said.

Police arrested a 19-year-old woman and charged her with armed robbery and possession of a weapon.

Officers also arrested a 26-year-old man and charged him with possessing a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, theft under $5,000, failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with probation.

WITNESSES DETAIN SUSPECT

Brandon police arrested a woman after she allegedly got into a two-vehicle accident while impaired on Saturday.

Just after midnight, police received a 911 call about an accident in the 300 block of McDiarmid Drive, and one of the drivers was trying to leave the scene, BPS said in a news release.

Witnesses told police they saw the driver walking unsteadily and that she appeared intoxicated, police said.

The witnesses brought the woman back to the scene and waited with her until police arrived, the release said.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Brandon woman and charged her with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, driving over the legal blood-alcohol limit and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

She was released with a court appearance scheduled on Thursday.

HEADLINE

A Brandon man was arrested on Saturday after he allegedly bear sprayed volleyball players at a park.

The Brandon Police Service received a report around 4:45 p.m. that a group of people were playing volleyball at Stanley Park when an unknown man sprayed bear spray toward them, BPS said in a news release.

When police arrived, somebody pointed out the suspect, who was running away, police said.

Officers arresteed a 26-year-old Brandon man and recovered a canister of bear spray at the scene, police said.

The man will appear in court on a single count of administering a noxious substance at a later date.
