• 10 a.m. — It’s McCain French Fry Day in the Keystone Centre grounds until 4 p.m. This is a drive-through event, so swing by and grab your fries and consider making a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba to make a real difference in a family’s life. Help support families with sick or injured children staying at RMHC Manitoba.

• 2 p.m. — The Brandon Riverbank is excited to invite the community to the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the Peter Sawatzky Sculpture Garden from 2 to 5 p.m. This past year has brought us many completed sculptures on the grounds, and we are so excited to pull together a celebration to honour the progress on this project. • 10 a.m. — The annual Halloween Hop returns to the city from Oct. 14 to 31, offering the community a chance to enjoy frightful fun while supporting local charities. Taking part in the festivities are Alternative Choice Garden (34th Street and Patricia Avenue), The Green Spot (1451 Rosser Ave.) and Livingstone Outdoor (1619 Byng Ave.). Each location has prepared festive displays and seasonal attractions. The Green Spot has created a bale maze while Livingstone Outdoor is hosting its popular Haunted House with eerie rooms, special effects and jump scares. For younger visitors, a special “no scare” hour will run nightly from 6 to 7 p.m. Alternative has a haunted greenhouse selfie station, storybook corner and game zone with Yardzee, Tic-Tac-Toe and more. Participants can pick up a Halloween Hop passport at any of the three locations.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 60 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery are two exhibitions: “8 Rooms,” featuring the animated film by Anita Lebeau, and seven other Manitoba artists, and “Ancestral Aviators,” by Kevin Conlin on display until Nov. 22. • Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open seven days a week from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum will remain open until Remembrance Day (Nov. 11) with a free open house and reopen again April 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. Our gallery has new interpretive displays explaining the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display for aircraft, vehicles, and hundreds of artifacts from that era. RCAF members who lost their lives during the Second World War are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. • Oct. 18-19 and Oct. 25-26 — Brandon’s Big One Arts and Craft Sale is back for its 36th annual edition at the Keystone Centre. Over two weekends, you can find 175 booths filled with talented artisans, makers, bakers and food vendors from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, all showcasing their handmade creations. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission at the door is $5; children 12 and under are free. Part of the proceeds from the door go to the BRHC Foundation and CancerCare Brandon.
