Spruce Plains RCMP arrested a Brandon man and a Boissevain woman after an investigation triggered by numerous reports of thefts from Canada Post mailboxes in rural communities across Westman.

The RCMP received the reports from late November 2024 into the early months of 2025, RCMP said in a press release on Thursday.

The reports came from the communities of Neepawa, Arden, Minnedosa, Kelwood, MacGregor, Carberry, Rapid City, Glenella, Erickson, Onanole, Sandy Lake and Rivers.

Spruce Plains RCMP conducted an “extensive investigation,” including examining mailbox sites, conducting interviews and executing search warrants in order to secure the evidence needed to prosecute, the release said.

Mounties arrested Ryan Eckberg, 38, on Sept. 29. He was charged with 41 offences, including counts of breaking and entering, theft from mail over $5,000, possessing property obtained by crime, fraud under $5,000 and theft of a credit card.

On Wednesday, RCMP arrested Jennifer MacDonald, 41, and charged her with 41 offences of the same nature.

Both were remanded into custody.

Sgt. Andrew Cowan, the detachment commander for Spruce Woods RCMP, highlighted the investigator’s “tremendous” amount of work.

“This outcome underscores our commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our residents and their property. We will continue to work diligently to protect our community from such criminal activities,” he said.

Spruce Plains RCMP continue to investigate.
