• 60 YEARS AGO — Brandon Wheat Kings continued to surge in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League as they pulled out a slender 6-5 triumph over Flin Flon Bombers. Veteran Bill Fairbairn scored three goals while Juha Widing, Larry McKillop and Jack Wells each added singles.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Brandon Travellers posted their first Manitoba Junior Hockey League victory of the year by beating the Thompson King Miners 5-2. Paul Murray, Simon Sochatsky, Dan Earley, Randy Markewich and Derek Schmuck scored for Brandon.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Dave Bryant ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns to pace Crocus Plainsmen to a 22-13 victory over St. Boniface Warriors in a Manitoba Midget Football League game.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Cory Rossin fired four goals to pace the Parkland Rangers to a 6-3 victory over the Southwest Cougars in a Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League game in Dauphin. Ryan Chase and Andrew Fenton also scored.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Josh Pettinger ran 14 times for 150 yards, including touchdowns of 45 and three yards for the Sabres (4-3), who finished out of the Rural Manitoba Football League playoffs due to their regular-season loss to Neepawa.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Alison Jones racked up 14 kills without an error to lead the Neelin Spartans to a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-17) victory over the host Crocus Plainsmen in a Westman High School Volleyball League junior varsity girls’ match.
