Today and tomorrow are the last days of the Shift/Work: Portraits of Precarity art exhibition at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art. The exhibition, by Lisa Wood and students Renata Truelove, Michael Vachon and Dhairya Vaidya, features layered paintings, three-dimensional elements, sound collage and drawings, the exhibition explores the lived experiences of people experiencing precarious employment. Gallery hours are noon until 4 p.m., both days.
The Brandon Chamber Players present “Songs from the Porch” on Thursday. Featuring music composed by BU’s Diogo Peixoto during the COVID-19 pandemic, the concert will feature Peixoto on guitar, joined by Marika Galea on bass, Eric Platz on percussion and Luis Deniz on saxophone. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m., in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall, and ticket information is available at BrandonChamberPlayers.ca.

Astrophysics meets agriculture in this week’s Science Seminar Series talk on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. Adam Rogers of BU’s department of Physics and Astronomy will present “From the Stars to the Soil: An Astrophysicists Adventures in Agricultural Engineering.” The talk will also be available online. The Bobcat basketball teams host their Canada West home openers on Friday, when the University of Manitoba Bisons come to the Healthy Living Centre. The women’s game will start at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. Both BU hoops teams will then visit the University of Winnipeg on Sunday. Meanwhile, both Bobcat soccer teams will be competing in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Final Four this weekend, with the location to be determined.
Jenny Maclay, on clarinet, and Luis Ramirez, on piano, will present “Arctic Soundscapes,” a concert featuring music inspired by the polar regions, on Oct. 27. All are welcome, and there is no admission charge for the concert, which begins at 7 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall.
