Jenny Maclay, on clarinet, and Luis Ramirez, on piano, will present Arctic Soundscapes, a concert featuring music inspired by the polar regions, tonight. All are welcome and there’s no admission charge. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall.

Knowledge keepers discuss the importance of respectfully bringing together different ways of knowing in a BU Teachings House event on Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The talk will take place in He Oyate Tawapi Ceremony Room on the main floor of the health studies complex. All are welcome.

The BU Symphonic Band will be joined by the Vincent Massey Senior Band, the Dauphin Senior Concert Band and other high school students from across western Manitoba for a performance at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on Thursday at 7 p.m. Visit WMCA.ca for ticket information about this evening of new and old favourites.

Jennifer Mateer of BU’s Department of Geography and Environment will talk about the links between water quality, food sovereignty and health in a Science Seminar Series talk on Friday. She will be looking at the case of the Turkey Creek at Oneida Nation of the Thames in southern Ontario. The talk will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the Brodie science centre and will also be available online. Email TeepleH@BrandonU.ca for more information.

Halloween meets high-flying action as the Bobcats put a scare into the Mount Royal Cougars for their volleyball home opener on Friday at the Healthy Living Centre. The evening will be filled with special Halloween activities, with the women playing at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 7:45. The teams will meet again on Saturday, with the women at 5 p.m. and the men at 6:45. The Bobcat basketball teams visit the University of Lethbridge this weekend.

Anishinaabe writer and University of Manitoba professor Niihau Sinclair will present a Visual Art Speaker Series talk on Nov. 3. Sinclair’s topic will be “Why Indigenous Art and the Art Gallery Aren’t Friends.” The talk will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 2006 of Clark Hall.
