A Crane River First Nation man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun toward a residence and fled from police on Saturday.
Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP received a report from a First Nation safety officer at around 8:30 p.m. that a man had shot at a residence in O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, which is also known as Crane River First Nation.
The residents of the house that was hit told police they knew the man and that he also pointed a firearm at one of the residents and “fired a round in their direction” before running away, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
Police searched for the suspect with the help of officers from the Winnipegosis and Dauphin RCMP detachments, Manitoba RCMP police dog services and a drone.
The drone found a man lying in a field behind the residence before continuing to walk to a residence and hide under a set of the stairs, Mounties said.
Officers arrested him without incident.
A police dog later found a firearm in the field.
Ashton McDonald, 24, was charged with discharging a firearm while being reckless, unauthorized possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm, mischief under $5,000 and possession of a restricted firearm.
McDonald was remanded into custody and will appear in court at a future date.
