• 40 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians named Cam Randall their most valuable player at the rugby team’s windup. Barry Connor was named outstanding junior.
• 30 YEARS AGO — David Draper scored three goals to lead the Virden Oil Kings to a 10-2 triumph over the visiting Shoal Lake Eagles in a North Central Hockey League game. Mike Robertson, Kent Reid and Corey Lane both added two goals for Virden, while Jason Routledge netted a single.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Reston Rockets beat the host Pierson Bruins 5-1 in SouthWest Hockey League action. Curtis Callander scored three goals, while Tyler Henderson and Dallas Williamson added singles for the Rockets.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Waywayseecappo Wolverines beat the visiting Selkirk Steelers 7-6 in a shootout during Manitoba Junior Hockey League action. Johl Swedlo had two goals and an assist for Wayway, Brayden Cullum of Russell had a goal and two assists, and Ty Enns of Cartwright and Aaron Dupasquier both chipped in a goal and an assist.
