HARTNEY MAN CHARGED AFTER SHOTS FIRED OUTSIDE BUSINESS
A man was arrested after he allegedly fired a gun at another man outside of a business in Hartney.
Deloraine RCMP were sent to a business on River Avenue at around 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 3 after receiving a report that shots had been fired.
Police were told that a man had discharged a firearm at another man outside of the business before driving away, RCMP said in a news release on Tuesday.
Mounties said the men knew each other, and no one was injured.
Deloraine RCMP, with help from the Killarney, Carberry, Virden and Brandon detachments, began to search for the suspect vehicle.
A short time later, officers found the empty vehicle parked on a property outside of town, and the firearm was found hidden outside at a residence in Hartney, RCMP said.
Manitoba RCMP police dog services were called in to help search for the suspect, and he was later found in a field north of Highway 2, roughly half a mile east of the property where the vehicle had been abandoned, the release said.
Mitchell Briggs, from Hartney, was arrested and taken into custody.
The 37-year-old faces several charges, including discharging a firearm while being reckless, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm in the commission of an offence and careless use of a firearm.
Deloraine RCMP continue to investigate.
POLICE SEIZE SUSPECTED DRUGS IN TRAFFIC STOP
Three Waywayseecappo men were arrested after the Manitoba First Nations Police Service seized suspected drugs during a traffic stop last week.
On Dec. 4, MFNPS were on a proactive patrol in Waywayseecappo and stopped a vehicle at around 9:45 p.m. to “ensure sobriety and proper licensing,” MFNPS said in a news release on Tuesday.
With help from the MFNPS K9 Unit, officers searched the vehicle and seized a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, Canadian currency and drug trafficking paraphernalia, the release said.
The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested.
Murray Brandon Jr., 38, Charles Shingoose, 44, and a 34-year-old man who MFNPS did not name in the release, face charges of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Brandon faces an additional charge of failing to comply with conditions of a release order.
Brandon and Shingoose were released on release orders, and the unnamed man was released on an undertaking.
