The Dakota Lancers are heading back to the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational championship semifinals.

The 2023 Victoria Inn Division (Tier 1) champions, who lost last year’s final, beat the Vincent Massey Trojans 90-72 on Daniel Rom’s game-high 29 points on Friday to win Pool B and will face the Sisler Spartans today at 1:30 p.m.

Brady Penner scored 13 points to lead Dakota to a 100-94 win over Mennonite Brethren on Friday morning, with Brody Stroitch netting 12 points for the Hawks.

In the other Pool B games, Massey beat Selkirk 105-80, and MBCI edged Selkirk 84-79.

SISLER SWEEPS POOL C

In Pool C, Sisler beat Jeanne-Sauve 91-61 as Amanda Alinoti scored 21 points and knocked off Steinbach 107-59 on Jacob Medina’s game-high 27.

The Crocus Plainsmen lost both of their games, 77-47 to Jeanne-Sauve and 71-67 to Steinbach.

Victor Aderemi Fawoye paced Crocus in both games with 16 and 23 points, respectively.

VIKINGS GO 3-0 AT HOME

The Vincent Massey Vikings are off to their first BSSI Tier 1 semifinal after Knox Smith scored 26 points to lead them to an 81-71 triumph over the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes.

Liam Jaro posted 24 for the Buckeyes.

Markus Stevenson racked up 36 in Massey’s 92-71 win over Regina’s Martin Monarchs, with Kiefer Derkitt recording 15 for the visitors.

In the other games, Kaiden Almonte notched 30 points as Miles Mac bounced Northlands Parkway 82-31.

Martin doubled up NPC 94-45 as Kehinde Ajayi and Greyson Gacutan tied for a game-high 20 points.

OAK PARK CRACKS SEMIFINALS

The Oak Park Raiders will play the host Vikings in the semifinals today at 11:40 a.m., after a 3-0 run through Pool A.

The Raiders edged the River East Kodiaks in the game of the day, 65-64, on Taija Manalastas’s 23 points.

Oak Park also beat Garden Valley 113-47.

The 2024 champion Riffel (Sask.) Royals settled for third in the pool with Thursday’s loss to Oak Park, beating GVC 87-44 but falling 81-69 to River East on Friday.

SOURCE FOR SPORTS DIVISION

The Neepawa Tigers spoiled the party for the Neelin Spartans, ending their shot at a Source for Sports Division (Tier 2) crown a day early.

Despite Sam Rempel’s tournament-high 61 points, the Tigers rode a 22-point effort by Juris Luna to a 95-61 victory in the last game of Pool E action.

Luna scored 19 in Neepawa’s 70-59 win over Glenboro, while Tucker Forbes hooped a game-high 21.

Neelin earned its first win of the weekend Friday morning as Rempel dropped 34 to help the Spartans beat the Major Pratt Trojans 74-40.

Glenboro bounced Major Pratt 90-36 in the other game.

CARBERRY ROLLS INTO TOP BRACKET

The Carberry Cougars completed a perfect preliminary round in Pool H, topping the Sanford Sabres 60-42 on Friday evening.

They’ll meet the Tigers at Massey today at 11:40 a.m.

The Cougars defeated the Calvin Christian Eagles 71-44 earlier as Owen Unrau dropped 29 points.

Sanford beat Helen Betty Osborne 66-25 earlier on Friday.

Calvin Christian topped HBO 75-39 in the evening game.

PORTAGE ADVANCES VIA TIEBREAKER

The Portage Trojans bounced back from a six-point loss to the Swan Valley Tigers on Thursday, winning two games to steal the top seed as the only 2-1 team to win a pool.

Portage beat Minnedosa 89-59 with the help of Cam Knott’s 27 points on Friday to stay alive.

Knott then piled up 32 in a 73-36 win over Souris.

Souris beat Swan Valley 60-44 earlier with a massive 38 points from Trey Penner.

Swan Valley beat Minnedosa 75-65 in the other game as Jayden Thompson dropped 32, leaving three teams tied at 2-1.

Portage won with a point differential of plus-31 in games between tied teams. Swan Valley was second, with Souris falling to third.

WINGS SOAR TO FINAL FOUR

The Linden Christian Wings took the Gimli Lakers down 95-57 in the winner-take-all game to decide Pool F and will face the Trojans at Massey today at 9:50 a.m.

The Wings beat the Dauphin Clippers 79-40 earlier on Friday.

Gimli defeated Virden 78-69, with Jesse Balenchuk scoring 22, while Dixon Tough had a game-high 27 for Virden.

The Clippers beat the Bears 92-77 to get in the win column in Friday’s late game.
