FIREARMS RESPONSE
The Brandon Police Service called out its Tactical Response Unit, drones and crisis negotiators to ensure the community’s safety while executing two search warrants on Wednesday evening.
Staff Sgt. Russ Paterson told the Sun that the units, which come out as a joint team, were called as there was “information that led investigators to believe that there were firearms present.”
The warrants were executed on Elviss Crescent and Westaway Bay, BPS said in a news release.
A 26-year-old woman, who had a warrant out for her arrest for breaching conditions of her release order, was arrested as a result, BPS said. She was held in custody and scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. Paterson said her arrest was unrelated to the information regarding firearms.
MOTEL MISCHIEF
The Brandon Police Service arrested a woman on Thursday evening after she allegedly smashed a window at a motel on the North Hill.
Officers identified the suspect through surveillance footage and arrested a 35-year-old woman, BPS said in a news release.
The woman was charged with mischief under $5,000 and was later released with a future court date.
PARKADE FIGHT
A man was arrested and charged with assault after a “fight” in a downtown Brandon parkade.
On Thursday evening, cadets with the Brandon Police Service came across an altercation in The Town Centre parkade and notified police, Staff Sgt. Russ Paterson told the Sun.
Officers arrested a 50-year-old man. He was set to be released once sober with a future court date.
