• 40 YEARS AGO — The Hamiota Huskies scored four unanswered goals in the third period to double the Virden Oil Kings 6-3 in a South West Hockey League game. Wes Coulson had two goals for the winners.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Carmen Hurd’s 64-point day wasn’t enough to lift the Vincent Massey Vikings to a gold medal. Hurd scored 19 points as the Vikings fell 52-48 to the Silver Heights Huskies in the championship final of the Sisler Spartans Classic varsity girls’ high school basketball tournament.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Lois Fowler kept her chances of winning an eighth straight Knickers Curlettes championship alive with her 9-4 victory over Ninette’s Darlene Clisby in Westman Super League action

• 10 YEARS AGO — Former Brandon Wheat Kings forward Rihards Bukarts was named the Western Hockey League’s player of the week. Bukarts had six goals and an assist in three games in that span as the Portland Winterhawks went 2-1-0-0.
