TODAY

9 a.m. — Calling all tobogganers! Hanbury Hill (600 Braecrest Dr.) is open and ready for sledders. You can warm up in the cosy warming shack which is open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The lights are on daily from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

9:30 a.m. — Asessippi Ski Resort (Provincial Trunk Highway 83, Inglis). As of Wednesday evening, the resort was to be closed today due to weather. It is open Friday and Saturday until 7 p.m. Then back to closing at 4:30 p.m. for Dec. 21-23 and 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 24. Closed Christmas Day. 1:30 p.m. — Taoist Tai Chi meets every Thursday at Trinity United Church (1515 Sixth St.) until 3 p.m. Take note there will be no classes on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

5 p.m. — Join us at WIS Multicultural Centre (403 13th St.) for Global Café Meet Up, every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Hang out, laugh, snack and join a chill mix of games, music, crafts and surprises. Just some good fun. For more information, visit Westman Immigrant Services.

5 p.m. — The glowing display of holiday lighting is now on at the Skating Oval immediately east of the Parks Complex at 2020 McGregor Ave. (also accessible via Hilton Avenue). The lights are on nightly from 5 to 11 p.m. throughout the winter season. No public vehicles are allowed in the direct area of the Waterfall of Lights display. Visitors are encouraged to park in the designated areas along McGregor Avenue or Hilton Avenue and enjoy the walk through this magical winter scene.

FRIDAY

9 a.m. — The Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.) with seasonal produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts and more until 4 p.m. This market runs year-round.

9 a.m. — Ski Valley in Minnedosa is set for opening today — all runs, all parks, all lifts, all fun! Located seven kilometres north of Minnedosa on Highway 10. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (but check schedule for changes due to weather). Check for updates at skivalley.ca or call 204-867-3509.

1:30 a.m. — The Sandy Lake Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Museum invites you to St. Nicolas Day celebrations at the Sandy Lake Drop-In Centre. Bake sale at 1:30 p.m.; program at 2 p.m.; lunch at 2:30 p.m. Silent auction.

6 p.m. — Wild Spirits, a winter pop-up dining experience at the Lakehouse in Clear Lake. Gather for a multi-course, forage-inspired dinner crafted by our culinary team using locally sourced ingredients, served in a cosy, fireside setting designed to celebrate the warmth and magic of the season. Takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are available and booking is live on the Lakehouse website.

7 p.m. — Blue Christmas, a service of Hope and Remembrance, will take place at Trinity United Church (1515 Sixth St.). For many people, the Christmas season does not bring with it the joy and happiness that is often associated with this time of year. Individuals may be facing the holidays after the death of a loved one; after a separation or divorce; facing illness with a loved one or self and so forth. This service will have more of a quiet, sombre feel and the scriptures, music and meditation will be focused on the comfort God offers during dark times.

7:30 p.m. — The Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium hosts Jake Vaadeland and The Sturgeon River Boys: Good Gracious, It’s Christmas! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the WMCA box office, at wmca.ca or by calling 204-728-9510.

8:30 p.m. — Live music with Ed and Rhea at Elkhorn Resort in the Buffalo Bar from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. today and tomorrow night.

SATURDAY

10 a.m. — The Green Spot is hosting Last Chance Christmas Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Expect returning favourite vendors and some exciting new names you’ll love. One hundred per cent of vendor fees will be donated to One at a Time Rescue in Brandon.

11 a.m. — A Free Family Fun Day, hosted by the Keystone Centre and the Keystone Centre Foundation will take place at the Keystone Centre from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Events include a Kids Fun Zone, Mighty Machines Exhibition, Indoor ball hockey, photos with Santa, cookie decorating, face painting, free hotdogs, chips, popcorn and soft drinks. Free movie and popcorn in the Amphitheatre at 2:30 p.m. Free holiday public skating (skates and helmet check available in Salon B and all skaters are required to wear helmets.)

Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery is the 21st Annual Members’ Show and Sale on until Jan. 9. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. Dec. 28 — Westman Jams gathers on the last Sunday of each month to play classic country music at The Fringe Restaurant and Lounge on Cove Road in Shilo from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. Dec. 30-Jan. 4 — The community of Rivers and the Rivers Curling Club are excited to be hosting the 2026 RME Women of the Rings provincial curling championships. Featuring fire pits throwing heat into the night; ice bars lighting up the patio; heated winter lounges; a food lineup to fuel the entire evening; drinks, energy and a midnight countdown! Dec. 31 — Come celebrate the new year at Asessippi Ski Resort. Spend the evening skiing, tubing and celebrating under the stars with family and friends. Enjoy two fireworks shows: one at 9:15 p.m. and another at midnight. Join our annual Midnight Run down Easy Street and be a part of one of Asessippi’s favourite traditions. Jan. 9-10 — The Brandon University Bobcats basketball teams host Winnipeg at the Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave.) Jan. 9, Women’s game at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. Jan. 10, women’s at 5 p.m.; men’s at 7 p.m.

Jan. 10 — Wheat City Nuit Blanche 2026 takes place at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (710 Rosser Ave.) from 5 to 10 p.m. This year’s theme is “Possible Worlds,” an invitation to chaos, optimism and fantasy. Jan. 13 — Join Jana Starling, clarinet, and Allison Wiebe, piano, for a pro series concert at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door. The recital will showcase hidden gems by Canadian composers, including Juno award-winning composer and fellow Brandon University alumna Jocelyn Morlock, as well as the unorthodox and imaginative Albertan composer Ian Crutchley.
