• 40 YEARS AGO — Rhonda Opperman tossed in 18 points to lead the Killarney Raiders to a 54-41 varsity girls’ exhibition basketball victory over the Neelin Spartans. Leslie Ballan of Neelin led all scorers with 19 points.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon boxer Roddy Batson improved his professional record to 10-5 after stopping Milwaukee’s Eric Crumble at 1:55 of the first round in a middleweight bout.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Donald Melnyk of the OCN Blizzard scored three goals and five assists in four games last week to win the MJHL player of the week award, edging out Dauphin Kings goaltender Marc Lesage
