The Assiniboine College Cougars swept the Jamestown Jimmies with a pair of 5-0 victories on the weekend in American Collegiate Hockey Association’s women’s Division 2 action.
The team’s newest player, recent transfer Veronica Smarz, made a quick impression on her new teammates when she scored the winning goal six minutes into Friday’s contest and then added a second later in the game.
Rachel Halldorson made just seven saves for the shutout, with Jenna Walker, Kasey Fouillard and Victoria Mann also sniping. Mann had a pair of assists, as did Kylee Emms-Finnsson.
On Saturday, Halldorson stopped 22 shots and the Cougars received goals from Abby Dixon, Smarz, Hailey Sitter, Victoria Mann and Montana Jubenvill to earn the weekend sweep.
The Cougars have a home-and-home series with the Dakota College at Bottineau Lady Jacks this weekend, with the teams meeting on Saturday at the Sportsplex at 7:15 p.m., and then at the Bottineau Lumberdome on Sunday at 2 p.m.
