The Centre for Critical Studies of Rural Mental Health at BU is joining with community partners to present a film screening of the documentary “Deep Rooted” at Ag Days on Wednesday from 4:45 to 6 p.m. “Deep Rooted” explores the mental health challenges faced by farmers and ranchers across Canada. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring farmers and mental health experts. The event will take place in the MNP Theatre at the Keystone Centre.

Dr. Abdullah Al Maruf of the University of Manitoba will present this week’s Science Seminar Series talk on Friday at 2:30 p.m. He will discuss additional prescribing strategies that can aid in finding suitable medicines for mental health treatment. The talk will take place in Room 4-34 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre.

The Bobcats women’s volleyball team is in the spotlight this weekend, with matches on Friday and Saturday at the Healthy Living Centre, while the men’s squad gets the weekend off. The Bobcats will host the University of Regina Cougars on Friday at 7 p.m., and on Saturday at 6 p.m. The BU futsal teams are also at home this weekend in the Henry Champ Gymnasium. On Saturday, the Bobcats host Canadian Mennonite University, with the women playing at 2 p.m., followed by the men at 3:45. On Sunday, Université de Saint-Boniface visits, with the women’s match at 10:45 a.m., and the men’s contest at 11:45.

The Brandon University New Music Festival is coming up on Jan. 26-27 at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. This year’s theme is Migration, Displacement and Belonging, exploring the universal journeys that shape us. Monday’s performance will feature Rita Ueda’s piano concerto “You are Ready to Bloom.” Tuesday’s concert will present new works by the BU New Music Ensemble and BU composers. There is no admission fee and all are welcome at both performances.
