• 60 YEARS AGO — Garth Strachan of Hamiota, Gerry McKay of Brandon, Ross Kinsley of Minto and Ted Bridgett of Virden are off to Dauphin for the Manitoba Consol playdowns in February after each rink was declared champions of their respective zones after final competitions.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Cal Fairbairn took care of the scoring and Brian Clark was faultless in goal as Pizza Place blanked A and W 1-0 in a Manitoba Broomball Association game.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Souris’ Doreen Palmer earned a berth in the grand aggregate of the Brandon women’s bonspiel when she stole one in the 10th end to down Lois Fowler and her Brandon Club four- some 8-7 in the premier Rodos’ Restaurant event finals.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Crystal Remillard scored three goals to lead Rivers to a 7-2 triumph over the Brandon Atom Wheat Kings in an exhibition girls hockey game. Danica Wotton scored two goals, while Jaclyn Porter and Malena Brown added singles for Rivers. Melissa Kunzelman and Danielle Hargreaves replied for Brandon.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Foxwarren Falcons shared the spotlight in a balanced offence attack in the NorthCentral Hockey League. Derek Tibbatts, Trent Tibbatts, Pat Falloon, Andy Chipelski, Charlie McKay, Calvin Mentuck and David Reagh each scored once to lead the Falcons to a 7-2 triumph over the Minnedosa Bombers.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The visiting Brandon Midget AAA Wheat Kings couldn’t bounce back from a pair of three-goal deficits, losing 5-4 to the Winnipeg Wild. Chipper Osiname, Jackson Popple, Brendan Kokorudz and Tate Popple scored for the Wheat Kings (17-17-0-1), while Josh Petersen and Max Paddock combined to make 33 saves.
