• 60 YEARS AGO — Waskada Comets strengthened their Southwest Hockey League division lead with their 8-3 victory over Souris Elks. Three Comets sparked the win with two-goal efforts — Scotty Hannah, Bob Payne and Wayne Adams.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Doug Steeves, the current athletic department head at Brandon University, has won the recommendation of a special selecting committee to fill the position of director of athletics and head of the department.

• 40 YEARS AGO — In Midwest International College Hockey League action, former Brandon Wheat King star Dave Curry’s three goals gave Keewatin Badgers a 4-3 win over the ACC Cougars. Malcolm Garden had two goals for ACC and Glen Lowry one.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Thomas Scantlebury scored twice to lead the Yellowhead Chiefs to a 5-1 triumph over the Brandon Wheat Kings in Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League action.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Alan Ahow had 13 kills Thursday to help the Winnipeg Wesmen to a 3-0 (25- 23, 25-21, 25-19) win over the Brandon Bobcats in a Canada West university men’s volleyball match at the Duckworth Centre. Joel Small led the Bobcats (3- 12) with nine kills and three blocks.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Cloverleafs won’t be returning to the Manitoba Senior Baseball League in the summer, potentially spelling the end for the province’s only senior AAA loop.
