• 60 YEARS AGO — Winner of the A Event in the Massey Ferguson playoff recently held in Russell was the Mathison rink of Hamiota consisting of James, Buck, Baldy and Al Mathison.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Brian Clark racked up another shutout in Manitoba Broomball Association play backstopping Pizza Place to a 5-0 victory over Derksen’s Plumbing. Al Pitzel scored twice for the winners and singles came from Brian Kilborn, Murray McMillan and Rick Simpson.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Darcy Smith was the only Brandon Boxing Club member to record a victory in a 14-bout card bout at the Keystone Centre. Smith scored a second-round technical knockout over Rick Petrowski of Winnipeg in the 160-pound division.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Mike Leclerc, a19-year-old left winger, notched his fourth hat trick in six games to lift the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 8-5 Western Hockey League triumph over the Moose Jaw Warriors before 3,290 fans at the Keystone Centre.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Becky Young of Souris was named one of four recipients of the Dale Iwanoczko Memorial Scholarship at a Manitoba Volleyball Association press conference in Winnipeg.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Nolan Patrick and Tim McGauley each scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings ended their four-game road trip with a 6-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors at Mosaic Place.
