CROSS LAKE – RCMP say they have arrested a suspect and found the victim in an abduction in northern Manitoba.
The Mounties issued a dangerous person alert on Thursday, which said a man had attacked someone with a hammer in a home in Pimicikamak Cree Nation, and abducted a 20-year-old woman as he left.
Mounties say the suspect, Joshua Paupanekis, was found in a home in the community this morning and taken into custody without incident, and the victim was located there as well with minor injuries.
The community’s chief posted on social media that the victim was safe and was undergoing medical examination and care.
Multiple police units from Saskatchewan and Manitoba had searched the area.
Pimicikamak is about 700 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
