60 YEARS AGO Cardale downed Foxwarren 4-1 in their first encounter of the SouthWest Hockey League playoffs behind the two-goal effort of G. Shaw. Jerry Cowan and Bruce McTavish added singles for Cardale.

50 YEARS AGO — Danny Rae is the only member of the Brandon YMCA Judo Club to pick up a first-place award at the annual Portage Judo tournament.

• 40 YEARS AGO Karla Stouffer and Chris Dodds emerged from the Pepsi Challenge Tournament as the top female and male five-pin bowler, respectively. Stouffer rolled a six-game total of 1,427 to claim the girls’ city singles championship while Dodds topped the boys’ event with a total of 1,277.

30 YEARS AGO Duane Kent fired seven goals to pace the Shoal Lake Eagles to a 13-9 triumph over the Sioux Valley Dakotas in North Central Hockey League action. Ryan Brody added a hat-trick for the winners. Stu Nowasick, with two, and Chris Jarves also scored.

20 YEARS AGO — For the second time in three nights, it was the Tyler & Tyler Show on Friday night at the Keystone Centre. Tyler Dittmer scored twice for the second straight game and Tyler Plante made 29 saves to spark the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 4-2 triumph over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

10 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Steve Irwin, along with Travis Taylor, Cody Rabe and Travis Saban, dispatched Doug Harrison of Winnipeg’s Granite Curling Club 8-2 courtesy of a pair of three-enders at the Viterra Championship.
