• 40 YEARS AGO — Guard Don Thomson and forward John Bukich, playing the final home game of their five-year careers at BU, contributed significantly in the Bobcats’ 106-58 victory over Lakehead University Nor’Westers. Thomson had 14 points and was named the Sun-Life player of the game, while Bukich scored eight and hauled down a game-high 14 rebounds.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Glen Bentz and Sheldon Verspeek scored twice apiece to lead the Killarney Shamrocks to an 8-2 win over the Wawanesa Jets in Tige Hills Hockey League action.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Nathan Rey scored two goals and added six assists as the the Brandon Wheat Kings trounced the Assiniboine Park Rangers 13-0 Thursday in the opening U18 AA Division game at the Maple Leaf-Victoria Inn Tournament of Champions.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame and Museum will add some more Westman flavour at its induction ceremony on May 1 in Winnipeg. Lois Fowler’s 2015 world senior champion team that includes Maureen Bonar, Cathy Gauthier and Allyson Stewart were named, as was eight-time Manitoba champion Karen Dunbar (Anderson) of Souris.
