The under-15 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings swept their best-of-five Winnipeg Hockey League U15 AAA quarterfinal series over Winnipeg Wild Green with three wins in the last four days.
In Game 1 on Thursday at J&G Homes Arena, Cash Didluck made 28 saves, Graycen Van Meijl scored twice and Riley Mangin, Daniel Flett-Neapew and Sully Taylor also sniped in a 5-0 victory.
Luca Auriti made 50 saves for Winnipeg.
The Wheat Kings widened their series lead on Saturday at J&G Homes Arena as Jett Wood posted a hat trick and Kale Nicol had two goals and three assists in an 8-3 victory.
Van Meijl, Flett-Neapew and Jace Woloski had the other Brandon goals, with Didluck making 14 saves.
Bo Sabourin scored twice for Winnipeg, with Auriti and Nash Siemens making 68 saves.
In Game 3 on Sunday at Winnipeg’s Hockey For All Centre, Nicol scored twice and Flett-Neapew and Wood added singles in a 4-3 Brandon victory that clinched the series. Brandon led 3-0 before Noah Lussier scored twice for Winnipeg to draw the hosts back within a goal, but Nicol’s second goal, which came 6:11 into the final frame, provided the cushion the visitors needed.
Aurick Veldhuisen made 18 saves for the Wheat Kings, with Auriti stopping 44 saves for Winnipeg.
The Wheat Kings went 31-1-0 during the regular season to top the West Division, while Wild Green were third in the Central Division with a record of 18-12-2.
