The Vincent Massey Vikings closed out their Westman High School Hockey League best-of-three quarterfinal against the Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair Huskies with a 7-1 victory in Game 2 in Hamiota late Wednesday.
Forward Ethen Church buried his first two goals of the post-season, while teammates Addax Egan, Vaughn McLeod, Cole Adams, Joe Balabanski, and Logan Harvey also tallied singles on the scoresheet for Massey. Matao Finnie scored the lone goal for Hamiota.
Between the pipes, Vikings netminder Madden Cheung made 26 saves in the victory, and Nicolas McDuff, who started in his second conescutive game for the Huskies, turned aside 30 shots.
Massey took Game 1 by a score of 2-0 at the Sportsplex on Sunday, and has now clinched its spot in the semifinals, where it awaits the winner of the Neepawa Tigers and Major Pratt Trojans.
Neepawa currently holds a 1-0 series lead following a 5-1 victory over Major Pratt on Wednesday evening in Minnedosa. Game 2 is tonight in Russell.
