Daxx Turner saved the best jump of his life for his last as a Manitoba Bison.
The Neepawa product had a solid start in the U Sports triple jump final at the U of M’s Max Bell Centre on Saturday, with two good jumps but three faults in a row.
He started a slow clap and took off down the runway before piecing together the closest to a perfect hop, skip and jump he’s ever done. Turner knew it right away.

“I knew it was one of my better jumps, ever,” he said after jumping 16.17 metres, claiming his second U Sports gold medal to cap his fifth and final year of eligibility.
“I’m super grateful I was able to do that. The thing I’m most excited about is having the Bisons go gold and silver in the triple jump. Triple jump’s an event I’m so attached to, to have someone right next to me who is also being very successful, that one means a lot to me.”
Bisons third-year Adebare Adegbosin took the silver medal at 15.68m, which didn’t surprise Turner one bit.
Despite his success over the years, dominating high school provincials, winning gold at five straight Canada West championship meets, or taking the top spot at the 2025 Canada Games, Turner said he always has some doubt about whether he can keep up with his competition.
Oftentimes, no one could keep up with him, especially not a teammate, until now.
“It was one of the first times in a while I actually felt a push from someone so close,” Turner said.
“Having another shot of energy coming from somewhere definitely helped me jump a little further this year.”
Turner broke his own Bisons record with the jump, also setting the Manitoba senior indoor triple jump record while setting a new personal best, indoor or outdoor, by three centimetres.
Turner still has a few more courses to finish school in the fall, and is retiring from other events, including the high jump, to focus solely on the triple jump.
He hopes to keep improving, make the national team and see just how far those three jumps can take him.
