Disturbance call leads to arrests

A disturbance call to a Brandon residence early Sunday led to the arrests of four people.

Police said that a 30-year-old man was arrested and detained on an outstanding warrant for failure to attend court. The man was also alleged to have pretended to be his sibling during an arrest on March 7 to avoid being charged himself. He faces new charges of identity fraud along with the original charges from March 7: assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon and possession of cocaine.

A 27-year-old male and a 40-year-old female were also arrested and detained on outstanding warrants. A 25-year-old female was arrested and detained as she was failing to abide by her release conditions.

Wire theft from compound

Brandon police arrested three men Friday after an investigation into the theft of wire from a compound on the 1100 block of Rosser Avenue East.

A 68-year-old, 54-year-old and a 53-year-old were each released to appear in court on June 4 on charges of possession of property obtained by crime.

In a media release on Saturday, the Brandon Police Service said the estimated value of the wire is between $8,000 and $10,000.

Assaults at residences

Brandon police arrested a 23-year-old man on Friday evening after responding to a call about an assault in a residence.

He was held at Brandon Police Service headquarters to appear in court on charges of assault with a weapon, assault by choking and mischief to property under $5,000.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 29-year-old man early Saturday morning after responding to a report of an assault at a residence.

The man was detained at the Brandon police station for a court appearance.

A second man at the residence who allegedly attempted to prevent officers from arresting the suspect was held at the police station until he was sober.
