• 40 YEARS AGO — Randy Markewich scored twice to lead the Spectrum Sportsmen to an 8-4 victory over Boissevain Border Kings. Paul Murray, Gord Kaluzniak, Brad Schoonbaert, Brad Burton, Warren Murray and Ken Schneider added singles.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jerry Hemmings coached the Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team to its forth national championship, defeating the University of Alberta Golden Bears in the final.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Lloyd McKinney scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Roblin North Stars on an 11-2 romp over the Minnedosa Bombers in the deciding game of their NorthCentral Hockey League semifinal.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Tatum Amy scored on a penalty shot in double overtime as the Yellowhead Chiefs won their best-of-five Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League final opener 2-1 against the Central Plains Capitals in Shoal Lake. Morgan Ramsay also bulged twine for the Chiefs, while MacGregor’s Sheridan Oswald scored the lone goal for Central Plains.
