• 40 YEARS AGO — Don Granger of Crocus Plains with his rink of Kevin Cooley, Cory Chegwyn and Brad Dixon won the Brandon High School Curling League boys’ championship. Coralea Cheasley of Neelin and her foursome of Sandra Makinson, Sharon Aune and Laurie Speers won the girls’ title.

• 30 YEARS AGO — On the strength of four goals by Darren Bryant, the Miniota Night Hawks defeated the Minnedosa Bombers 7-4 in MAHA Intermediate D playoff action. Ryan Brown, Kent Doole and Barry Little scored the other goals for Miniota.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Crystal Cornish, a 5-foot-9 left side from Winnipeg, and Joely Hanke, a 6-foot left side from Ponoka, Alta., both committed to Brandon’s University women’s volleyball team.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Goalie Scott Parsons stopped all 22 shots he faced and Matt LeBlanc had a goal and an assist as the Winnipeg Blues defeated the host Virden Oil Capitals 2-0 in Game 7 of their best-of-seven quarter-final series. Geordie Keane added an empty-netter for Winnipeg,
