5 p.m. — Please join us at the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba for the opening reception for “Tears of Truth,” with Brandon students and “Reconciliation, Resilience, and Red,” with Justina McKay in the Kayes Family Community Gallery. These two exhibitions honour and reflect on MMIWG2S, the families that had their children taken by Canada’s residential school system, and the survivors that are still here today who are navigating their healing journey. Reception starts at 5 p.m. with welcome and remarks at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

7:15 p.m. — The 2026 Battle of the Badges: The Tie-Breaker Match takes place in Shilo. In 2024, CFB Shilo was victorious and Terry Parlow, the City of Brandon Chief of Emergency Services, lost a bet to Lt.-Col. David Cronk, and had to wash a LAV. In 2025, CFB Shilo lost to Brandon Fire and Emergency Services and Cronk had to wear a Brandon jersey at work all day. Now in 2026, an epic one-night showdown to determine who is the premier hockey club in Westman takes place at the Shilo Gunner Arena with puck drop at 7:15 p.m. Skills competition between the second and third period. The public can also enjoy an open skate time ahead of the game at 5:30 p.m. and meet some of the players. Free for all to attend.

FRIDAY

9 a.m. — The Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place every Friday at The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave.) with seasonal produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, crafts and more until 4 p.m. This market runs year-round.

Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Daly House in partnership with the Brandon Embroiderers presents “The Art of Embroidery: Past and Present,” an exhibit featuring more than 100 embroidery pieces dating from the 1800s to the present. Exhibit is on display until May 20. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. In the Main Gallery is “The Performance of Being,” a retrospective of work by Canadian artist Leesa Streifler on until April 4. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery are two exhibitions on until June 6, the “Tears of Truth,” bead curtain project created by Brandon area students and community members; and “Reconciliation, Resilience and Red,” by Justina McKay. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. April 5 — Join us at Asessippi for the Asessipi Eggstravaganza as we wrap up the season with a full day of Easter fun around the resort. Outdoor Easter Egg Hunt starts at 9:30 a.m. Twenty-five laminated prize eggs will be hidden across the hill in creative locations. Find an egg an bring it to the Gift Shop to redeem your prize. Kids Candy Hunt starts at 10 a.m. Candy-filled egg hunt takes place around the three chalet seating areas for children 8 and under. Indoor Bunny Hunt all day long inside the lodge. April 5 — Promises Bridal is hosting their second annual Easter Egg Hunt at Princess Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join us at this family event for an Easter egg hunt, pizza and hot chocolate. This is an outdoor event so dress for the weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Crafts and inflatable costume races if weather permits. April 8 — Minnedosa Performing Arts Expression Concert Series presents Jaca, a presentation of Prairie Debut Clarinet and Guitar Duo at Minnedosa United Church at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at Minnedosa Regional Library as well as Eventbrite.

April 9 — The South West Branch of the Manitoba Genealogical Society is holding their annual Heritage Dinner at Knox United Church. Supper at 6 p.m. followed by a presentation from Stella Fedeniuk entitled, The Ukraine Experience: “From Ukraine to the Perogy Belt in Canada.” Cost is $35 per person. April 9 — Join Westman Gardeners to hear a presentation on Native Plants by Sherry Punak-Murphy at Central Community Centre (529 4th St.) at 7 p.m. Sherry is a biologist, an insect enthusiast, and native plant lover. Her passion is educating others in the native species found here in Westman. Her presentation will discuss native flowers and plants suitable for our yards and how they are beneficial to our environment. Guests are welcome to attend for a fee of $5.

April 9-12 — Mecca Productions presents The Mel Brooks Musical: Young Frankenstein at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. April 9-11 at 7:30 p.m. and April 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

April 11 — The Woodworth Fire Department is Fired Up to fundraise for a new rescue unit so come join us at the Kenton Memorial Hall for supper, silent auction and entertainment. April 11 — Bring your friends, your fabric art and your creative spirit to Daly House Museum and Archives and stitch with us. The Stitch in Public Day is open to all textile artists of all skill levels and ages. Bring your own projects or learn new fabric art such as surface embroidery on felt, hardanger or cross stitch, or a very easy project suitable for beginners.
