• 40 YEARS AGO — Six Brandon players were selected to play in the provincial high school seniors’ all-star games at BU. Lynn Zemliak, Cindy Gabor and Lorna Braaksma, all Vincent Massey Vikings, were chosen for the South Division team. Crocus Plains’ Leanne Yarish was also named to the team but wasn’t able to play. For the boys’ team, Scott Draper and Dave Malowski, both of Crocus Plains, were to represent Brandon.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Gary Fleury scored four goals to lead Skullers to a 7-5 victory over Key West Roofing in Brandon Men’s Floor Hockey League playoff action. The Skullers swept the best-of-five final.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings evened their best-of-seven WHL Eastern Conference quarter-final series with the Moose Jaw Warriors at a game apiece by grinding out a 2-1 victory at the Moose Jaw Civic Centre.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Reid Gow lit the lamp twice and added an assist as the Killarney Shamrocks won the Tiger Hills Hockey League championship with a 5-0 Game 4 victory at home over the Carberry Plainsmen. The Shamrocks won the best-of-five series 3-1. Aubrey Chapman added a goal and two helpers for Killarney, while Brayden Cuthbert and Isaac Friesen also bulged twine in a game that saw 28 minor penalties handed out. Killarney goalie Brian Archibald was named the league MVP.
