WINNIPEG – Police have charged a man with sexual assaulting a female colleague in a Winnipeg hotel room while they were attending a work conference.

Scott Fielding, 53, was arrested Thursday and released on an undertaking.

Police wouldn’t confirm if it’s the same Scott Fielding who was a cabinet minister in Manitoba’s Progressive Conservative government and a former Winnipeg city councillor.

The Canadian Press was unable to reach Fielding for comment.

Police say a 34-year-old woman was out socializing with conference attendees in March 2024, when a man at her firm escorted her back to her hotel room.

The woman reported that she was sexually assaulted to police in another jurisdiction in January 2025, who then informed Winnipeg police.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 27, 2026.
