EDMONTON – A 16-year-old boy is facing assault charges after a stabbing at an Edmonton high school that sent a fellow student to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Edmonton police say the stabbing happened Friday at Jasper Place School. 

Police allege the teen confronted another 16-year-old boy about an argument that happened earlier in the day.

They say he was stabbed when trying to walk away. 

Police say other students tried to restrain the suspect, but he was able to break free and leave the school. 

Police say school resource officer immediately arrived on scene and helped staff with life-saving measures. 

The teen was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but police say he has since been released and is recovering at home. 

The school was immediately placed on lockdown and patrol officers quickly located a suspect nearby and took him into custody.

He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and criminal harassment.
