ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

The Brandon Police Service arrested a woman after three separate reports of violent encounters on Monday.

A 68-year-old man reported that an unknown woman had approached him while yelling and screaming before she lunged at him with a knife in a back lane of Hill Avenue at around 2:30 p.m.

The man evaded the woman, and through further investigation, police found out that the same suspect had assaulted a second victim in the 1200 block of Fifth Street, BPS said.

The second victim, a 30-year-old woman, sustained a laceration on her arm and a family member brought her to the hospital, BPS said.

Police said a third person reported being threatened by the suspect in the 400 block of Brandon Avenue.

Officers found the 20-year-old suspect, who had a knife on her, in the 400 block of College Avenue and arrested her without incident, BPS said.

Police found that the woman was on an undertaking with a condition not to possess any weapons.

She was transported to BPS detention cells, where she proceeded to damage a detention-issued iPhone during a call with her lawyer, police said.

The woman faces charges of possessing a weapon, uttering threats, failing to comply with an undertaking and mischief under $5,000, along with two counts of assault with a weapon.

DANGEROUS DRIVING

Brandon police have arrested a man in connection with a dangerous driving incident in late February.

An officer saw a vehicle on Willowdale Crescent “reversing rapidly” out of a parking stall at a business while a woman was hanging out of the front passenger door on Feb. 28, BPS said in a news release.

The woman ended up on the ground in the parking lot, and the vehicle fled north on 26th Street, police said.

The vehicle ignored red lights, stop signs and police emergency lights, and drove on the wrong side of a divided road, BPS said.

Police obtained surveillance footage and later identified a suspect.

Officers found the 19-year-old suspect in custody at Brandon Correctional Centre on Monday and charged him with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

BREAK AND ENTER

The Brandon Police Service is investigating a weekend break and enter.

On Monday, BPS received a report that suspects had entered a compound on the 2200 block of Park Avenue at some point over the weekend, BPS said in a news release.

Several keys to off-road vehicles were reported to be stolen, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the break and enter should contact the BPS non-emergency line at 204-729-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 204-727-TIPS (8477).
