• 60 YEARS AGO — At the eighth informal dog trial of the Brandon Retriever Club Phil MacMillan’s dog Mr. Mac’s Billy Boy won the open all-ages stake over Russ Scott’s Shep of Arabee, of Brandon.

• 50 YEARS AGO — George Holoway of Fleming amassed 82 points to easily outdistance his closest rivals and capture the North Central Hockey League scoring championship.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Hal Haight of the Cartwright Clippers has been named the most vauable player in the SouthWest Hockey League playoffs.

• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings were defeated 6-4 by the Prince Albert Raiders to even the best-of-seven East-Central Division final at 2-2. Bobby Brown had two goals for the Wheat Kings. Brad Church and Curtis Brown scored for Prince Albert.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Trevor Daley has started his new job as head professional at the Clear Lake Golf Course, taking over from Tom Betz, who moved to Grand Pines this year after working at Clear Lake for more than a decade.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The Swan Valley Tigers opened the Westman High School Rugby season with a 20-14 victory over the host Dauphin Clippers. Dylan Chernyk scored a pair of tries in the boys’ game, while Mason Kujanpaa and Logan Sagert both added singles.
