WINNIPEG — A Dauphin-area man accused of stealing a pistol at a gun show in rural Minnesota was found with more stolen firearms in his Manitoba home, RCMP say.
United States Customs and Border Protection informed Manitoba RCMP in March that a man from the Rural Municipality of Dauphin had been arrested in Minnesota after a handgun was stolen on March 19 at the show in Newfolden, Minn.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and Marshall County Sheriff’s Office officials recovered the pistol. He was charged with felony theft in the U.S. and released on bail before returning to Canada on March 28, RCMP say.

Provincial and federal RCMP began investigating and learned that more stolen firearms might be at his home in the RM of Dauphin. Officers executed a warrant at the house on April 15 and found seven firearms, two of which were confirmed as having been stolen in the U.S.
None of the pistols was stored in compliance with Canadian firearm regulations, say RCMP, and several were loaded.
Wilfred Kachurowski, 73, has been charged with seven firearms and gun-smuggling-related offences, including weapons trafficking, importing weapons knowing they are unauthorized and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.
He was held in custody.
