• 60 YEARS AGO — B.R. “Monty” Montague of Rivers was elected president of the Manitoba Baseball Association meeting held in the YMCA.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Broomball Association held its annual windup and awards night with Rod Zenk of A&W taking the scoring title for West Division and Ron Young of Pizza Place taking the title for the East Division. Top goalies in the West Division were Bob Phinney and Norm Langston of A & W and for the East Division, Brian Clark of Pizza Place. Rookie of the Year was Al Pitzel, Pizza Place.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Local volleyball standout Teagan Hunter finally made it official this weekend, committing to play for the Brandon University women’s team in the 2006-07 season. The Crocus Plains left side was the last recruit on Lee Carter’s radar, a must-have for the former Grande Prairie College head coach who has steadily built up his cache of local talent.
